sprouts

I grow sprouts year round, but I appreciate them even more come winter when I can’t find fresh veggies for my salads. When the price of a head of organic lettuce goes up–it’s sprouting time!

I used to grow sprouts in Mason jars that I would lean top down onto a wooden rack made by my engineer dad. The rack was large enough to hold 4 large jars at a time, and probably sturdy enough for 4 people to stand on. While this was a great system for when I had a decent-sized kitchen, in a condo, I needed something more compact. Last year I discovered the Easy Sprout Sprouter–what a find! Sprout People have wonderful videos on how to sprout all types of seeds. I like the sprouter from Passion Santé for sunflower sprouts, which you can also use to make tofu… mmm… homemade tofu!

It’s not uncommon for me to have 3 sprouters going at the same time, sometimes even 4, especially in the winter. I order my seeds online from Mumm’s, which is also where I purchased my 4 Easy Sprout Sprouters. Some of my favourites include Mumm’s Spring Salad, Ancient Eastern Blend, and my most favourite–Crunchy Bean Mix. I just love the added crunch in my salads! Mumm’s (Like them on FB) has a phenomenal selection of top quality organic seed and grain mixes.
